Alliance Francaise
Feeling like you've had enough of Thailand for one night, you can join the alliance for one of their cultural events by clicking here.
AF also shows regular movies at this link.
Goethe Institut
Purusing through their website, you won't find another organizations this unique. Their focus of the week is a look at Gregor Schneider's piece called: When Violence Takes the Form of a Room.
But, if you are German and don't want to talk to your Thai wife in English for the rest of your life, this is your onestop for German language classes.
British Club
Japanese Club
Foreign Correspondents Club
Apparently humble map makers don't qualify for the Foriegn Correspondents Club. For those of you with more lofty credentials, this is what they say about themselves:
"The Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand (FCCT) is in its 49th-year. As Southeast Asia's largest and oldest press club, the main goal of the FCCT and its members is to promote and protect the rights of the press in Thailand and across Asia.
The FCCT is Southeast Asia's No. 1 forum for open discussion and debate on local, regional and international news and issues."
If you can snag a membership, you get access to book launches, press conferences and even Friday night jazz. Give it a try and tell us at Groovy what you think.
Bangkok Community Theatre
Bangkok Community Theatre (BCT) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation of many nationalities who work together to produce English language plays for the local community.
Bangkok Music Society
Were you looking for something beyond hip hop at RCA? The Bangkok Music Society will connect you with choir and classical music. Want to participate? Join their Wednesday choir practices.
Low on talent? Well, the qualifications have more to do with effort and good will: "Enthusiasm and commitment rather than musical experience are a must and we welcome all standards as long as you enjoy singing and simply want to get involved." So, if you're a musical genious and a grouch, you should probably stay home. For everyone else, contact Daphne Colwell at 02-617-1880 or email bms@musician.org.
Jewish Association
Bangkok boasts three Synagogues. If kosher food is your thing, you can find it in massive quantities here. This is what they have to say:
"An eclectic, cosmopolitan metropolis, Bangkok is home to a large ecumenical medley of faiths, both Eastern and Western. Yet with only a few hundred Jewish families residing in Bangkok permanently, Judaism may appear to be on the periphery of religious life in the city.
Not so. Jewish life is alive and well, its vibrancy making the Thai capital a regional centre for Judaism. Jewish presence in Thailand stretches back to at least the early 17th century, and in recent decades the Jewish Association of Thailand has been instrumental in helping resident Jews maintain their distinct identity in Bangkok.
Three sizeable synagogues are in operation across the city, catering to the daily spiritual needs of local and visiting Jews alike. Prayer services take place regularly at the various locations; a kosher restaurant located on the backpacker center of Khao San Road offers a broad range of delectable fares; and kosher foodstuffs produced locally and imported from Israel and the United States are also available.
The Jewish community of Bangkok also has an exciting events calendar, including recreational activities such as occasional tournaments of the Jewish Bowling League."
I added the italics. The League actually exists and for those who want to hang out with tribe members outside of the synagogue, this is the place to do it.
